SOUTH HAVEN -- A Kalamazoo man will face charges after his gun went off at a picnic in South Haven.  Open Carry of Michigan held a picnic at a shelter near South Beach in South Haven last Sunday.  28-year-old Jonathan Wayne Sager of Kalamazoo was among those in attendance, firearm at his side.

When it was over he went back to his friends car and began allegedly unloading his weapon for transport as required by law.  That's when the gun went off, fortunately without hitting anyone.  Sager was stopped in the 800 block of LeGrange Street by South Haven Police who checked his weapon and returned it to him before sending him on his way.

They later acquired a warrant for Reckless Use of a Firearm, and Sager voluntarily turned himself in earlier this week.  He was released pending formal arraignment.
