BRIDGMAN (WKZO) --The Cook nuclear power plant's Unit Two reactor is back online, but only after a 37-million dollar upgrade. Indiana Michigan Power says that the unit was returned to service on Sunday after having been out since earlier this fall. The company took Unit Two offline on October sixth to conduct some routine refueling, and found damaged baffle plates, which then had to be repaired.
Extra safety testing was also done along with the repairs, amounting to a total of 365-thousand work hours done by an eleven-hundred person staff. Also during Unit Two's time offline, crews installed 37 million dollars worth of equipment to improve performance and ensure the unit's longevity.
