OLNEY, ILL (WIBQ)-Twenty-one college educators in the Wabash Valley lose their jobs in a cost-saving move.

Illinois Eastern Community College’s Board sent out over 20 reduction-in-force letters

It’s a major cut affecting 4 different community colleges, including Olney Community, Lincoln Trail, Wabash Valley, and Frontier Community Colleges.

The packed room of teachers waited to learn their fate Wednesday night.

IECC board members voted 5 to 3 to cut 21 college educators.

Board members said the bottom line is they do not have enough money to pay the entire faculty.

Board members said the state of Illinois still owes them $1 million and they don't have any other way to cut costs.

These cuts will take affect for the fall semester for all four of the community colleges. However, board members did say some of the educators could be called back to work if the board receives money.
