LANSING (WTVB) - - Two months from now, officially you’ll call it the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. For his second Executive Order, Governor Snyder announced Tuesday that the Department of Agriculture (MDA) has gotten a longer name. "Rural Development" will officially be added to the Department's mission as of March 13th.

The Governor said this should be seen as more than just a symbolic name change. According to Snyder, it should be seen as a clear signal that his administration intends to work with the agriculture industry to help it grow in order to bring more and better jobs rural areas, which he said are suffering with some of the highest unemployment rates in the state. The end goal, said the Governor, is to provide sustainable, long-term jobs.
