BALTIMORE (Reuters) - The Baltimore Orioles traded veteran right-handed starter Jeremy Guthrie to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, the teams said Monday.
Guthrie, 32, has spent the past five seasons with the Orioles and was 9-17 with a 4.33 earned run average in 2011.
"Jeremy is excited about a fresh start with a new organization and a contending team close to his home in Salt Lake City," Guthrie's agent, Brodie Van Wagenen, said on his Twitter account.
Guthrie was 47-65 with a 4.12 ERA over five seasons with the Orioles after being claimed off waivers from Cleveland in 2007.
Hammel, a 29-year-old right-hander, posted a 34-45 record with a 4.99 ERA over six major league seasons with Tampa Bay and Colorado. The 31-year-old Lindstrom, also a right-hander, is 12-15 with a 3.81 ERA and 45 saves in five years with Florida, Houston and Colorado.
